5 Stars for Acer Spin 514 Chromebook/Google AMD Raven Ridge
I got a new Acer Spin 514 Chromebook/Google AMD Raven Ridge.
I love it!
I'm talking over the moon; happy with it so far…
My Dad informed me the Chromebook is related to Linux & this intrigues me.
Dad was an early Linux adopter/enthusiast. It seems like I remember him telling me it took days to download Linux; not sure how long the installation took. I'll increase my basic understanding of Linux in the coming days.
The Pixel phone has been my choice for a while now; I've been an Android devotee for longer than I've been a Google phone lover & haven't had a laptop/desktop without Windows on it, ever. And I always got along with my phone better than my laptop! Go figure!
Familiarizing myself with the new Chromebook, here is an observation that became apparent to me-
Most of my monthly spending (outside of the usual necessary expenses) is to stay connected to the outside world…tech, streaming fees, cloud storage…upgrading tech, more storage, etc. I'm even buying space online to self-publish my thoughts and opinions, share stories and reviews, & be creative…sprinkled with terrible poetry along the way.
So this is me reaching out into the world and giving a wave & saying-
Hey! How are you? Nice to meet you.
Details about my new Acer Spin 514/Google AMD Raven Ridge Chromebook-
I include the experimental generative AI search result from Google:
Generative AI is practical. Info quality may vary.
Raven Ridge is the codename for AMD processors for mobile and desktop computers. The processors are based on the Zen CPU and Vega GPU microarchitectures and have four cores. They are fabricated on GlobalFoundries 14 nm process.
The first Google Chromebook with an AMD processor, codenamed Kahlee, will be upgraded to the Raven Ridge chipset platform before it's released. The Kahlee is the second generation of the Ryzen series and features the Zen and Zen+ architecture.
AMD is also working on the next generation of Ryzen processors, codenamed "Picasso," for use in Chromebooks.
This is what PC Magazine has to say about the Acer Spin 514.
Forbes also includes this Chromebook in a list of Best Laptops 2023.
This is my first Chromebook. I was inclined to think this one is geared more toward gamers in my preliminary research. I didn't need a gaming computer, but the price point was good, so I tried it. I am a Google devotee, after all…you can call me Mrs. Google! I call Mr. Google a lot- every time I do a Google search. (I got jokes, just jokes, though, I never said they were good.)
Follow me for more thoughts about the Raven Ridge Chromebook as I get used to blogging with it. I will be sharing my thoughts and checking in on how it's performing here on this blog.
I give this device a solid 5-star rating.
Bloggers!! Writers!! I'm telling you- the Acer Spin 514/Google AMD Raven Ridge is an excellent device for writing! A blogger's dream has come true (so far-I'll keep you updated)!
It's light, fast & has everything I need to maintain my blogs & edit photos. This is also a perfect device for students; I wish these had been around when my child was young for ease of use. She's all grown up now & an Apple devotee!
I purchased an external drive to go with this Chromebook. If this device continues to meet my needs the way I anticipate it will, I'm already beginning to wonder if I'll find the need for another Windows laptop.
More to come on this topic.
I wish I had done an unboxing for this Chromebook.
